The homeland of the sandalwood is the Indian subcontinent, Australia and East Indonesia. Today, it has spread to the forests of various countries such as China, Sri Lanka, Philippines. There are two types of Sandalwood. One of them gives red fruits that look like a bunch of grapes. These fruits are not poisonous, but they are inedible because they taste bad and hard. In the other type, there are coarse-grained red fruits that resemble strawberries. It is quite delicious and eaten. It is also known as Kocakarı Yemişi or Koca Yemiş. The length of the sandalwood varies from 4 to 9 meters. The tree can live up to 100 years old. When the roots are upright, it begins to spread randomly. They have thin, lanceolate leaves. The tree growing in 3 years will bear fruit, but it is only after the fifth year that the tree can bear fruit in full yield.
