Thyme is a plant belonging to the same family. Marjoram (Origanum majorana) is a small-flowered shrub. Both oregano and marjoram belong to the mint family known as Lamiaceae. The main difference is the taste. Marjoram has a sweet taste and thyme has a different taste.
Marjoram is a plant species growing in the Mediterranean and Aegean regions and is grown in greenhouses in March. Where the winter temperature is high, marjoram can be grown in pots and in the gardens of the houses and starts to grow in April. The plant, which can be collected between May and June, is cut to 5 cm from the ground and turned into bundles.
The canopy is airy and dried in an environment where the temperature does not exceed 38 degrees. The marjoram plant, which loses its odor after drying, can be found whole or chopped in markets and in herbal products.
Marjoram is a cold-sensitive plant or a substrate with sweet pine and citrus aromas. In some Middle Eastern countries marjoram is synonymous with thyme and there are also names of marjoram and knotted marjoram used to distinguish it from other plants of the genus Origanum.
