Macadamia Hazelnut is a tree that can be grown comfortably in regions growing Avocado, Papaya, mango and banana. It was discovered in the rain forests of Australia and spread from there to the world. It is a very hard shelled Hazelnut type. Although Macadamia Walnut can withstand temperatures up to 3 ° C, the ideal temperature for yield is between 16-25 ° C. Theoretically, a grown Macadamia tree can withstand cold to -2 degrees. When you go above sea level, the efficiency and quality decrease significantly. Growth of Macadamia Hazelnuts is slow and yield is late at altitudes above 600 m. Planting Mauka, Kau and Keaau varieties at altitudes of 600-650 m above sea level and Purvis, Makai and Keaau species at the sea shore (90-300 m) should be preferred. Also, wind is one of the most important reasons affecting the yield.
Macadamia Hazelnut species recommended for commercial cultivation are Keaau, Kakea, Kau, Purvis, Pahala, Mauka and Makai. The fat content of these varieties is more than 73% and the sugar rate is very low.
Although it can be grown from seed, it may take 10-12 years to get yield, so grafted trees should be preferred in commercial cultivation.
Macadamia Hazelnut species may have upright, wide and umbrella-shaped shapes. Depending on the type, planting frequency is also recommended 3.5 x 7 or 10 x 6.
Fertilization is not recommended for young seedlings in aquaculture. It is expected to get used to the soil first. In fertilization, it should be paid attention that the manure does not touch the sapling body. Since the soils are naturally poor in zinc, it is necessary to supplement Zinc every year.
When Macadamia Hazelnut ripens, it falls to the ground and is collected from the ground. Therefore, the surface must be clean and free from grass. Macadamia Hazelnuts should be collected from the ground once a week. If it is kept too long, its quality decreases and it is exposed to various damages by the mouse and other rodents. Throughout the harvest, the branches are shaken to fall to the ground. Immature Macadamia should not be collected. After the harvest, the green crust should be discarded immediately.
