It is a plant that grows in India, Sri lanka, Madagascar, South Africa and tropical marshes, is a delicate, fan-leaved and almost crawling on the ground. It is used in India specifically for meditation and Ayurveda and is believed to improve the head chakra, the energy center above the head, and the balance between the right and left hemispheres of the brain. It has long been used in traditional Chinese and Indian medicine. The plant has been used as a vegetable in Sri Lanka, and in China for a long time as a promoter (Tonic) to regulate brain function.
Modern studies on Gotu Kola found that it contains three main active ingredients. First of all, aciaticoside, which is a glycoside compound and classified as an antibiotic, is a triper. With this feature, Gotu Kola can help heal wounds. The second most important substance is a saponin glycoside compound, brahmoside or brahminoside, which naturally have a diuretic (urinary enhancing) and mild sedative effect. Finally, the important ingredient it contains is madecassoside, a glycoside with a strong anti-inflammatory (anti-inflammatory) effect. Gotu Kola also contains Vitamin K, magnesium, calcium and sodium. Gotu Kola should not be mixed with Kola plant (Kola nut) due to the similarity of its calming and soothing effects. Because it is in no way related to cola plant and does not contain caffeine.
