It grows naturally in the region from the Mediterranean region to the Himalayas. They are green in summer and winter. It spreads in our country especially in Aegean and Mediterranean regions. There are about 12 species of this genus and various varieties. Summer - winter are plants with green decorative color and form features. It is in tree and shrub form. The lower parts of the forms can be round, narrow or wide pyramidal, rounded, columnar or pendulum. The leaves are needle shaped then scales at the first exit. The flake leaves have no stomatal lines. The leaves carry resin glands in the middle. The cerves are single-homed. Male and female flowers are located in different branches. Male flowers are rather cylindrical and small. The female flowers consist of a large number of coniferous scales arranged crosswise and each with many stubs. Cones are woody, round (1.5 - 4 cm in diameter) contains 6 to 12 scales, under each scales there are 30 - 40 seeds. Seeds ripen in the second year. Cone scales are in the form of a shield and are connected to a point in the middle of the cone. There are a large number of seeds under each cone flake. Seeds are hard-shelled.
