 Chia seeds are edible seeds of Salvia hispanica, a flowering plant in the mint family native to Central America, or the corresponding Salvia columbariae of southwestern US and Mexico. Chia seeds are oval and gray with black and white spots with a diameter of 1 millimeter in diameter.
