The herb, angelic herb, is also known worldwide as “Angelica”, “Angâlique”. Angel grass, which is a member of the parsley family, is a plant that can reach an average of 2 to 4 years and a height of 3 meters. While the body of angel grass is in the shape of a round pipe, it is hollow, the outside is brownish in color and bifurcates upwards. The leaves of the angel grass are on the side, the edges are toothed, pointed towards the tip, sometimes oval and sometimes with three lobes. The flowers of the plant are formed on the trunk and lateral branches, while they are umbrella-shaped and yellowish green or light green. While mushroom-like protrusions are on the edge of the fruit of angel grass, this is why the plant can swim without sinking into the water. The roots of the plant are in the form of a sponge and the side roots are similar to the braid and become brownish red.
Angel grass is a plant that has been used very often by humans since ancient times. This plant, which is used all over the world, grows especially in Central and Northern Europe, China, Korea and Japan, and grows more in the Eastern Black Sea and Marmara regions in our country. Angel grass is mostly collected in September and October, the roots of the plant are removed, washed and dried. While drying the angelic root, the temperature of the environment should not exceed 40 degrees. Because then the essential oils inside the plant can disappear. While its roots (Radix Angelicae), whose flowers are greenish, are good for many internal organs, especially stomach and intestine, its use is expected to become more widespread with its appetizing and diuretic properties.
